Key points
Perfumery grade
Composed by perfumers from high-quality natural and aroma materials, the way a luxury perfume is.
Built in layers
Top, heart and base notes give a fine fragrance depth and balance rather than a single flat note.
Designed to signal quality
In a building, fine fragrance reads as premium. Functional fragrance reads as air care or cleaning.
Fine fragrance is the perfumer’s art, not air care
Fine fragrance is the term the fragrance industry uses for perfumery-grade compositions: the craft behind luxury perfumes. A fine fragrance is composed by a trained perfumer, built from carefully selected natural materials and aroma molecules, and balanced so that it smells complete and stays true over time.
Most scents used in commercial buildings are not fine fragrance. They are functional fragrances: formulas designed to cover odours or signal cleanliness at low cost. The difference is immediately noticeable to visitors, even if they cannot name it.
Why it matters in a building
A building’s scent is part of how visitors judge its quality. A fine fragrance tells them the space has been considered in the same way as its architecture and materials. A functional fragrance tells them the opposite. How scent signals quality and value.
What defines a fine fragrance
Four qualities separate fine fragrance from functional scent. Applied through signature scent for buildings.
Complexity: many materials blended into a coherent whole
Balance: no single note dominates or turns harsh
Quality of raw materials

Frequently asked questions
1. What does fine fragrance mean?
Perfumery-grade fragrance composed by a perfumer, as used in luxury perfumes, rather than a low-cost functional scent.
2. Is fine fragrance just stronger?
No. It is more complex and balanced. Good fine fragrance in a building is usually subtler than functional scent.
3. Who makes PrimeScents fragrances?
Equal Strategy creates each signature scent with DROM, a fine fragrance house we have partnered with since 2007.
4. Are natural ingredients always better?
No. Fine fragrance combines naturals with aroma molecules. Quality and composition matter more than origin.
5. Is fine fragrance safe in buildings?
PrimeScents fragrances are made to IFRA standards and are alcohol-free. California-compliant formulations are available on request. IFRA standards explained.
