Cold-Air Diffusion Explained

Key points

No heat, no water

Fragrance oil is broken into a very fine dry mist using air pressure.

The whole fragrance

Every note is released together, so the scent smells as composed.

Controllable

Output is set by schedule and intensity for each zone.

How cold-air diffusion works

Cold-air diffusion, also called nebulising or dry-air diffusion, uses compressed air to break fragrance oil into microscopic particles. The particles are light enough to stay suspended and travel with the air, spreading the scent evenly without heat, water or residue.

Because nothing is heated, the fragrance is not altered, and all of its notes are released together. That makes cold-air diffusion the method of choice for fine fragrance in commercial buildings.

Compared with other methods

Heated diffusers can change a fragrance’s character. Water-based humidifier diffusers dilute it and add moisture. Passive methods such as reeds are too weak for commercial spaces. Cold-air diffusion avoids all three problems.

Why it suits commercial buildings

Cold-air diffusion meets the demands of large, occupied spaces. Applied through HVAC and ACMV scent systems. See HVAC vs standalone diffusers.

How it is deployed

Cold-air diffusion is specified for each zone.

01

Size the system

Capacity is matched to the air volume of each zone.

02

Choose placement

Standalone units or HVAC connection, depending on the space.

03

Calibrate

Intensity and schedules are set on site and adjusted through our managed service.

Frequently asked questions

1. Is cold-air diffusion the same as nebulising?

Yes. Both terms describe breaking fragrance oil into a fine dry mist with air pressure.

2. Does it leave residue?

Correctly specified and calibrated, the micro-mist disperses without visible residue.

3. Is it quiet?

Commercial units are designed for occupied spaces and are placed to minimise noise.

4. Can it connect to air-conditioning?

5. Does it use more fragrance?

It uses fragrance efficiently, because output is controlled precisely.

6. Who maintains the diffusers?

Equal Strategy’s technicians. A client never touches a diffuser.
